Back in the saddle again.Hallelujah. It's been almost 3 weeks but Cantankerous remembered where to go and how to make divers smile. We had a great trip yesterday as seas were flat and vis was better then we expected at about 20-25 feet. As the week goes forward it should only get better as seas are supposed to look just like in these pictures. We didn't get a bottom temp, sorry, but there was a little thermal cline in 50 feet. We had 73 surface temp.

It's time for a change. The last month has been pretty darn frustrating as the winds just keep blowing while the few days in between the fronts the water has been a wrong shade of green to dive.

It has given us the opportunity to show Cantankerous all kinds of love and she is ready to roll with a brand new Certificate of Inspection from the Coast Guard for the 2020 season!!!! With any luck we will be able to resume diving next week and it will be full throttle headed West.Clearwater, Florida KSK Marina Clearwater Visit St. Pete/Clearwater Clearwater Marine AquariumHuish Outdoors Raymarine Visit Tampa Bay Adventure Outfitters Mac's Sports Inc.

Had a new Capt behind the wheel and she was outstanding on her first day. We are back out again tomorrow, 8:15 meet time and have one spot left if you would like to join.

Diving this holiday break has been like riding Shikra over at Busch Gardens, full of unpredictable highs and lows in the name of fun! Cantankerous had a good run with 6 straight full boat trips before the first fronts rolled through which canceled us for 7 days. We cancelled 3 more days knowing there wasn't any visibility. Capt Mahardy made lemonade out of lemons by heading north to Rainbow River where our clients geared up and dove the crystal clear water.

Last weekend, we were able back into the Gulf for 5 long days before once again being ushered to the sideline. The GREAT news, water temps are mild, holding steading at 70ish F, up from 63 on the bottom we experienced after the last front. We were concerned that our diving for the season may have been over but not so fast!! There is big life everywhere in shallow water and the Goliath grouper have decided to congregate in numbers on some of our near shore sites.

Ryan and some guests counted 12 on a single site and 8 on another which made for great dives. The growth and new life on the Circle of Heroes is fantastic to see. Visibility rose from a tough 8-10 feet on the first day to 30+ as of Wednesday.

As soon as this current weather clears, we will be back at it until the water temps tell us its time to play golf! It was a great run to end November as the Cantankerous ran 9 of 11 days at max capacity hosting divers from all over to dive the Gulf.

Visibility varied from 15 feet to top to bottom at the end of the month. Water temps also fluctuated from a low of 66 climbing back to 73 by Thanksgiving. Though it may be a bit chilly for us Floridians, just about everything seems to be swimming about our waters right now. Our pictures show what our divers viewed at depth: eagle rays with cobia below, goliath groupers and schools of barracuda, turtles and nurse sharks running into each other on ledges, and what we think is a sizable sand bar shark who has taken up residence at the Circle of Heroes. He showed up 4 days in a row and Ryan was able to get this pic of him as he swam. Diving will continue to be good outside the fronts, chilly, but full of things to see.

We had another amazing day out in the Gulf on Thanksgiving. Capt Seth is back on leave from the Bahamas and has been working the other side of the boat playing Captain.

Yesterday I was able to get him in the water doing what he really loves. He was only able to shoot me a few pics before heading back out today but amazing the life we have out here. 11 excited divers out right now. Raymarine FLIR Systems Visit Tampa Bay Clearwater, Florida Mac's Sports Inc.

Turkey day dive dive dive. So we were only going to run 1 boat tomorrow which was already full, but after today we have changed our plans. It's flat calm, vis is top to bottom and the diving is as good as it gets.

We had loggerhead sea turtles, goliaths, barracuda, amberjack, a huge school of eagle rays, Cobia, sandbar sharks, and the list goes on ALL TODAY!!! Along with all the normal very cool little creatures to see. That being said we have opened up a second boat. 5 spots are already gone, 4 left. Sign up online.

Meet time 8:15am. Should be back to the dock around 2pm, way before 5 o'clock turkey time. Once again sign up online and maybe we will see you tomorrow. This job is the best when the weather cooperates like it did Friday, Saturday, and then again today. Visibility was only 10-15 Thursday but it cleared up and by Saturday it was almost too to bottom. I was a little fearful that after yesterday's front it would drop but it did not.

Still had 30+ today. Water temps were 68 Tuesday then warmed to 72 Saturday. Today was back to 70 but with the warm forecast this week we should get back up to 74 by end of week. Earn to die 2 exodus hacked. All the big critters are out right now with the influx of bait. Lots of Goliaths, barracudas, mackerels, and today we saw a few good size sharks.

We will be running everyday this week and still have a spot or 2 available. Meet times are pushed to 10am because it's just too darn cold at 8 in our minds. See you on the Tank.

What a great 3 days of diving we had on the only 3 days weather cooperated. Weather was perfect, water has cooled a bit down to 77 and the bait has arrived bringing all kinds of life to see.

We had fantastic trips with Adventure Outfitters Dive shop as well as Gulf Coast Divers from Tampa. Get you diving in now while it's still warm. After 7 years at the helm of Tanks-A-Lot Dive Charters, we are saying Fair Winds and Following Seas to Captain Ryan as he charts a new course in his career. As his business partner, I had the privilege to watch Ryan take the helm of the Cantankerous, of the celebrated Tanks-A-Lot Dive Charters from Captain Mike Miller and Captain Ben Dauterman before him. In his time behind the wheel Ryan along with Capt Seth did a phenomenal job to not only continue, but also grow the Tanks-A-Lot following. On your next trip you should expect to see any one of our 8 experienced captains or 6 dive masters - all of whom are avid divers and able to answer most any questions that you may have. We may struggle identifying some of those tiny nudibranch and invertebrates that Capt. Ryan and Capt. Seth took so many amazing photos of, but we are working on it.

Speaking of them, don't be surprised if you see Capt Ryan, Capt Seth, or heck even Capt Miller make a celebrity appearance behind the wheel from time to time. Our entire crew remains committed to the legacy of providing safe.

Fun, and unique scuba experiences onboard the Cantankerous.A new chapter in this storied charter operation has begun and we look forward in sharing it with you. After seven amazing years serving the Tampa Bay Area and dive community I have recently decided to pass the Tanks-A-Lot torch to co-owner Captain TJ.

TJ and his talented crew will continue serve our dive community. It has truly been my privilege over the seasons to spend my time offshore with thousands of divers from all over the world. From the most extreme technical diver to the first time boat diver.I also want publicly thank all the Dm’s I have had. I couldn’t have done it without the dedication of my crew over the years. Capt./DM Seth has pursued an opportunity in the Bahamas. But I can promise you that you will see us on one of the boats from time to time.I plan on taking a sabbatical and spending more time underwater practicing the art of underwater photography before I start new chapter. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions about diving or underwater photography as many of you already know. Both are my passions!

However, today I had the day off and went diving with Capt. We were in search of Nudibranchs on the Airplane Barge.

With some success. We completed two 70min dives and I managed to search the bow and port side walls of the barge. Photographed approximately five different subjects and had a fantastic day!! Two new discoveries for myself! Seas were 3-4 foot with 40+ft of visibility and 88 degree water.Capt/Dm SethHere's a few photos from our dives on Thursday.

Another nice day on the water yesterday. It was a little windy with seas around 2ft. But we still got our dives in and had some cool creatures. I was busy searching for the Tyrinna ameliosorm nudibranch which I managed to find three of, while our guests were checking out the massive schools of bait and the goliath groupers.

Flat calm seas and good visibility. Our divers wanted to see the Circle of Heroes today so we started there and moved over to the Airplane barge. I managed to find to little Nudibranchs on the barge and some other cool critters.

Thursday we headed out to the Veterans Reef and got to see some of the crew involved with placing the Circle of Heros statues. They were doing some additional work before the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on August 5th.

Adding some signs attaching permanent navigation lines and finalizing mooring buoys. Got to meet Jack a veteran of the Vietnam war who has been volunteering his time to get the work completed. Water is still nice and warm around 86 degrees. Flat seas and visibility had improved since our three days of rain last week, with about 35-40ft of visibility.

Shoot Um Up!It is really a love/hate feeling when it comes to lionfish. In their natural habitat they are truly beautiful.

I was privileged to see them in Indonesia this past spring and they were magnificent. I HATE to see them in the Gulf, Atlantic or Caribbean. Sadly I saw more in the Bahamas this past winter than in Asia.

What I do LOVE is the taste of these fish. Every fish we culled this trip did not go to waste. They made a great dinner.

All footage was shot on two ledges we dive frequently here in the Gulf. September 10th is the Guy Harvey Lionfish Round-up. Reef Monitoring has booked the Can-Tank-Erous for the event. Here is a link to find out more.
