There are two separate folders, preferences and betapreferences. If you rename your existing preferences to betapreferences and then name it back to preferences when you switch back, you can carry your existing progress through both switches. If you don't edit the file system at all, you'll have two lots of progress in parallel, so when you go back to the main branch you will be back where you left off. (This second approach also means you need to unlock all the cards and relics again when you start beta). The developers also don't necessarily agree with DLC. If the game is doing well financially, then they will have the resources to push out free content such as new characters. In the interview, the developers said that they aren't sure about DLC or free content upgrades because they need to see how well the game does.

If the game is selling well and thriving, then charging for additional content is unnecessary because they will be able to afford to push out free content. There is no need for avarice. Yeah, I would happily pay them for DLC considering how cheap the game is relative to the amount of content already available and how much enjoyment it gives me. I love supporting my favorite devs. I almost feel bad when games like Hollow Knight and Shovel Knight continue pushing out free content that I would happily pay them for.I think a good middle ground could be free minor DLCs that add new rooms, enemies, bosses, floors, etc. That everyone could share, and then paid DLC that adds new characters to the tune of about 3-5 dollars each. That sounds pretty fair to me.

I wouldn't even mind paying if they ever introduce other entirely new spires to climb since that would double or triple the amount of content.
